When news goes crazy
This morning word flew through the newsroom that a plane had been hijacked at Cape Town International Airport. Things got more and more built up until it became a British Airways plane that had been hijacked after taking off. This wasn't true at all. Instead it was a domestic airline in which two people made threatening remarks to the crew, which turned around and came right back to the airport where the two people were quickly arrested.
What's interesting is that while the newspaper got the story totally correct, at least initially no one knew what was going on and rumors ran wild. So just so you all know, even shit like that happens at newspapers. Just hopefully in the end you wind up getting the story right.
